Crystal White Brazilian Sugar Description

Description

This sugar is produced in Brazil from sugarcane and refined to yield a very high-purity white crystal sugar. For example:

It is often marketed as coming from cane sugar (not beet) and refined such that sucrose content is extremely high — e.g., a Brazilian “Crystal White Sugar” product claims more than 99.7% sucrose.

The sugar has been processed to remove molasses, sediments and other external impurities so that the product is “white, crystalline, uniform” and suitable for food-and-beverage, confectionery, dairy, etc.

Many specifications refer to the “ICUMSA” colour rating (International Commission for Uniform Methods of Sugar Analysis) which indicates the degree of whiteness/purity: e.g., ICUMSA 45 is a very high quality “sparkling white” refined cane sugar.

Key Specifications & Features

Here are some typical measured/claimed features of this sugar:

Colour: “Sparkling crystal white” when refined to high standards.

Polarization (i.e., sucrose purity): typically 99.80% min for the high-grade refined version.

Moisture: very low permissible moisture, e.g., ≤ 0.04% by weight in many specs.

Ash / Conductivity Ash (which indicates mineral/impurity content): very low, e.g., ash content ≤ 0.04% or similar.

Solubility: the crystals are free-flowing and fully soluble (100% solubility in many specifications).

Sediments/impurities: Typically “none” or minimal. E.g., sediment none, smell free of any smell.

Granulation: Fine to medium crystals depending on the grade. For example, one spec lists about 0.60 mm average size for ICUMSA 45.

Typical Applications

Because of its high purity and whiteness, Brazilian white crystal sugar is suitable for:

  1. Direct human consumption (table sugar) or use in food service / retail.
  2. Ingredient in confectionery, baked goods, chocolates, beverages (soft drinks, juices), jams, sauces, dairy products. For instance, one supplier states that their product “can be used in the production of many everyday goods, including baked products, candies, chocolates, soft drinks, jams, sauces, and dairy products.”
  3. Industrial/food-processing uses where consistent quality, good solubility and low impurities matter.
  4. Export/wholesale supply: Many Brazilian producers/packers mention large‐scale bags (50 kg, bulk) and container shipping.

What Makes It Special / Advantages

High purity: Because of rigorous refining and quality control, this sugar can deliver very high sucrose content, low impurity load, which leads to better performance in applications where impurities or colouring matter.

Whiteness / aesthetic & functional: The “crystal white” appearance is desirable when the visual impact matters (e.g., in clear beverages or in white confectionery) or when colour contamination must be minimised.

Consistency: Good manufacturers will supply sugar that dissolves uniformly, behaves consistently in formulation, and is free from weird odours or off‐flavours (because of low residual impurities).

Brazilian origin: Brazil is one of the world’s largest sugarcane producers/exporters, so the origin gives scale and potentially cost‐effectiveness for buyers globally.

Considerations / Things to Check

Grade / ICUMSA rating: “Crystal white” sugar may come in various grades (ICUMSA 45, 100, 150) and the lower the ICUMSA number, the whiter/purer the sugar. For instance ICUMSA 45 is very high grade.

Packaging & transportation: Sugar is hygroscopic and can cake or degrade if exposed to moisture or poor storage; ensure proper packaging, dryness, and storage conditions.

Intended use: If you use this sugar as an ingredient (versus just household sugar), ensure the batch meets any specific regulatory/food‐safety standards you need (heavy metals, microbial limits, etc). Many specifications list things like arsenic, lead, and copper max values.

Cost vs lower grade sugar: High purity/refined sugar will cost more than coarser or less refined sugar (e.g., raw VHP sugar). For applications where colour/purity is less critical, a less refined sugar may suffice.

Suitability for local market/import: If you are importing into Nigeria or West Africa, check import duties, shipping from Brazil, packaging (50 kg or big-bags), local storage conditions (humidity, heat), and whether the product meets local food standards.
